Spek helps you practise interviews out loud with an AI interviewer. This page explains what we collect, why, who processes it, and how to remove it. We have written it to match what the app actually does.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address from Sign in with Apple or Google.
- What you tell us at sign-up: what you are preparing for, your field and stage, and optionally your age, country, first language and what worries you in interviews.
- Documents you add: the text extracted from a CV, job posting or reference page. The original file is not stored.
- Your interviews: transcripts of what you and the interviewer said, the setup you chose, and the written feedback.
- Your phone's language and region (for example "en-NG"), so the interviewer can greet you in your language.
- The name you give your interviewer, if you rename it. How you customise its face is kept only on your phone.
- Reports you send about something the AI said, with the passage you reported.
Audio is never stored. Your voice is streamed for the length of the interview so it can be understood and answered, then discarded.
On your phone only
- Voice wake (iPhone, off unless you turn it on): while Spek is open and resting, your phone's own speech recognition listens for the word "Spek" on the device. Nothing it hears is sent to us.
- Motion: on iPhone, the tilt of your phone moves the face's eyes. The readings stay on the phone and are not stored.
- Reminders: practice reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not send push notifications.
Leaderboard
The weekly leaderboard shows other members your first name and the first letter of your last name, the country you set, and your practice points (from the number and length of interviews, never their scores or content). You can leave it at any time in Profile.
How it is used
Only to run your interviews, write your feedback, remember your progress between sessions, and keep the service working. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
AI processing
Your voice, your typed messages, your documents and the details above are sent to Google's Gemini API, which runs the interviewer and writes your feedback. Spek asks for your permission before anything is sent, and you can withdraw it in Profile at any time; without it, interviews cannot start. Google processes it under the Gemini API terms that apply to Spek's account. When it helps your interview (for example, looking up a university or a company you mention), the interviewer may search Google; the search is made by the AI on Spek's account, not yours.
The interviewer and its feedback are generated by AI and can be wrong. You can report anything it says from inside the app.
Other processors
- Hosting and database: our servers and database providers store your account and transcripts.
- Crash reports: if enabled, technical error reports are sent to Sentry. These exclude personal information by configuration.
- Sign-in: Apple and Google verify your identity. We receive only your name, email and a sign-in identifier.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. You can delete a single interview from History, or your whole account from Profile, which removes every interview, transcript, report and document immediately.
Your choices and rights
You can view and change your details in Profile, withdraw AI consent, delete interviews, and delete your account in the app. If you no longer have the app, request deletion at spek account deletion. Depending on where you live you may have further rights, including access, correction and portability; contact us to use them.
Children
Spek is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
